Hi Willem,
this is quite true - Octet Strings represent arbitrary (usually
'binary') data, and hence cannot be generically represented
graphically. Data which is textual should, in general, not use Octet
string as its Syntax type.
if you have an attribute that is octet string, and you cannot
change the syntax to something more meaningful, but you still want to
display it, it is possible to write a 'plug in editor' to display it
instead, but you will still need to click on the attribute field to
bring up the editor.

Hi Chris,
I have a question about Jxplorer. I've received the complaint that
when using Jxplorer, varables of type Octet String cannot be shown.
"Octet Strings in JXPlorer can not be displayed and changed. "Non
String Data" is shown. In the phased out LDAP browser it was
possible to view and change Octet Strings. "
Is this true, or is it a bug?
Thanks in advance for the answer,
Kind regards,
