Hi Fred,
jx needs java 1.4 or better, which of course most javas are
these days. It just internally does the equivalent of 'java -
version' and checks the number.
however it sounds like your problem is the installer, which can
be a bit precious; try installing the 'deploy.tar.gz' file instead
(from the sourceforge site - sourceforge.net/projects/jxplorer -
unpack that and run the shell script instead.
cheers!

Chris,
I'm sure this is a candidate for the FAQ, but do you know of a way
to accomplish an install on Fedora Core 6?
The installer does not recognize gij as a valid VM. Whenever I've
tried to forgo the native java on FC6 and go with Sun's, I end up
with a java environment that isn't useable...
Tried fooling the installer with versions of (mv /usr/bin/java /usr/
bin/java-x; cp /usr/bin/gij /usr/bin/java), but that only forces
errors in loading shared objects.
I can get by with webmin, but sure would like to be able to use
what I believe to be the best LDAP tool around!
Thanks,
Fred
